Mitter ancestry: new book evidence and a working hypothesis
Family research · open for evidence
Family elders report direct descent from Rai Durlabh, and possibly royalty. These cards bring the people and sources together so relatives can help identify the missing generations.
Working assumption: Brij Nath Mitter is Brajanath Mitra, the Calcutta convert, and Braja Nath Mitra/Mitre, the Culna teacher. This identification is provisional. It does not by itself establish the Rai Durlabh connection.

Kasi Prasad’s maternal uncle in the account.
Raj Ballabh’s unnamed sister. Her father is inferred from their sibling relationship.
Ram Prasad and Radha Prasad are separate people in this view. No record yet identifies them as the same man.
The new book photograph identifies Brij Nath’s father explicitly.
The connecting people and number of generations are unknown. No parent–child line joins the two branches.
Mangat Rai, p. 28: “Rai Radha Prasad Mitter (Brij Nath Mitter’s father)”. The family also holds the original portrait.
Assumed identity: Brajanath Mitra / Braja Nath Mitre. Hunter describes an unnamed pensioned father descended from an unnamed former Rajah of Calcutta. Applying that account to Radha Prasad depends on this identity being correct.
Norma married Prio Nath Dutt; the Dutt–Banerji family line continues through her.
